Vancouver-based electronic music architect MAML brings us his new single, Taking Steps, accompanied by a short film. The brand-new single and short film explores a wide array of emotion, providing insight into the artist’s musical journey.
Both the track and short film focus on one key realisation: the most important aspect of creating music, or art in general, is to create something that you enjoy first and foremost – don’t worry too much about how it will be perceived by others.
While this may be a new path for MAML, he is no stranger to musical discovery. Growing up, he played guitar and sang in bands. Ultimately, he found a passion for electronic music and music production. The title of the track Taking Steps is the perfect fitting title for this track, as MAML is figuratively taking steps into his sound as an artist.
Taking Steps is MAML’s way of discovering but also refining his sound. The track begins with an ambient aura that smoothly blends into heavy drums and big synths. His cinematic storytelling ties the whole project together in a euphoric and awe-inspiring manner. Big sweeping synths collide with textures of delicate and contrasting instrumentation, weaving dynamic melodic progressions as shifting rhythm patterns drive below. The producer offers sparsely placed vocal lines, lifting his composition to add an ethereal energy.
