Manchester, U.K. based artist Chris Durkin, spent most of his teenage years glued to his hand-me-down laptop, crafting his unique sound which he describes as “melancholic, chilled, end of the night kind of music.” On his latest release, the producer links up with vocalist Lauren Light on the new track ‘Mind’, released via Lost In Bangers.
Chris Durkin has been captivating audiences since 2015, whether it’s through the compelling musical journeys in his DJ sets or his electrifying tracks, Chris always pursues to create something illustrative.
Surrounded by motown, rock and electronic music growing up, Chris was sure to have a genre blending sound. His first official release ‘Blame it On Me (feat. Bella Grace Ellis)’ caught the attention of U.K. stations including BBC Introducing and Global Radio Network, who awarded Chris the title of Vodafone Future Breaker, which was announced across their listenership of over 2.7 million a week.
Though never content with his ability, Chris decided to take a break from releasing music so that he could evolve as a producer and DJ, building an arsenal of new music ready for release. Although this doesn’t mean he disappeared from the scene, DJing at a festival and clubs around Manchester, Chris kept people interested in his sound. One notable interest was from Vodafone big top 40, who decided Chris was worthy of the title Vodafone Future Breaker, which was announced, across many national radio stations including Capital FM, Heart and Smooth FM to over 2.9 million listeners.
Since then, he has managed to build an international fan base, with multiple label releases on imprints such as The XXX (EDM.com) and Lush Records. His 2019 track ‘Slow (feat. Akacia)’, has over 250 thousand streams across platforms with support from electronic heavy weights like CloudKid. “I just write music that makes me feel good, it’s humbling to think that so many other people around the world connect with my music.”
Alongside his own music, Chris also crafts hits for other creatives such as Tyron Webster, a fellow Manchester based artist. He describes Chris as his “creative right arm”, together they have played festivals and received huge support for their infusion of ambient and R&B.
