UK-based producer Dark MTTR brings us the second single, titled ‘Closing Open Wounds’ released from his new EP Nomansland.
Giving his thoughts on the track, he says, “This song is very simply about the transition of youth to adulthood. I toyed around with various different lyrics, but felt the track was more powerful with the same lines repeating, whilst the backing music builds and grows of age with the song. Specifically, it’s about how life isn’t quite what it used to be when you were young. Less stresses, less things to worry about, and less responsibility.”
Adding, “Musically I was sitting on the piano melody for a while for this song. I wanted to strike a balance between the peaceful piano of an artist like Olafur Arnalds, the electronics of Moderat, and ghostly vocals akin to Bon Iver or similar. The song draws on many of my influencers accordingly, and I love the way the sections filter through these sounds.”
Delicately winding between his influences and his own original take on a mix of indie and electronic inspirations, Dark MTTR lays down an emotive an poignant sonic experience of stuttering synth stabs and a vocal delivery dripping in atmospheric euphoria. A subtle rhythm pinned by the instrumentation and backed up by restrained percussive work allows his new sound to breath, while the composition builds to a graceful crescendo throughout.
