Kanye West left the stage after performing for just 13 minutes at the closing ceremony of the Pan Am Games.
The Games are held every 4 years the year before the summer Olympics and feature athletes from nations of the Americas. This year’s event was held in Toronto, Canada.
The star reportedly stormed off when the sound cut out during his third track ‘Touch The Sky’. West, 38, threw his mic in the air and left the stage, leaving many confused it was part of his performance. The singer was the last to perform in the starstudded line-up which also included Pitbull and Serena Ryder.
‘The volume that he performs at is so high, it might have been what affected the sound system, but it also might be something his team planned all along, so you just never know because he’s such a creative guy.’ Pan Am Games CEO Saad Rafi told The Canadian Press.
Following the performance, the organisers Tweeted the abrupt end was due to a ‘technical error’.
Organisers of the event were criticised for booking the Yeezus rapper, and as with so many other cases, a petition was signed by 50,000 Canadians to replace him with a more local artist such as Drake or Nelly Furtado.
