This year’s MTV Video Music Awards were awash with drama, but Kanye West unsurprisingly succeeded in creating the most headlines. During his acceptance speech when presented with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, the 38-year-old rapper stated his ambitions for running as a Presidential candidate in 2020.

The ‘Touch The Sky’ star admitted he had ‘rolled up a little something’ before the show, generating speculation about the legitimacy of his claims. However, in true Kanye style he stated, ‘I don’t know what’s going to happen tonight. I don’t know what’s going to happen tomorrow, bro. But all I can say to my fellow artists, is just worry about how you feel at the time. I’m confident. I believe in myself. We [are] the millennials, bro. This is a new mentality. We are not going to control our kids with brands. We are not going to teach low self-esteem and hate to our kids. We are going to teach our kids. to believe in themselves.’
‘And yes, as you probably could have guessed by this moment, I have decided in 2020 to run for president.’
Before he took to the stage, a replay clip was shown of the infamous moment at the 2009 awards in which Kanye interrupted Taylor Swift while she accepted the award for best video of the year. But the ‘Bad Blood’ songstress kept it light, cracking a joke while presenting him with the Vanguard award. ‘Imma let you finish, but Kanye West had one of the greatest careers of all time,’ she smiled.
