Kendl is the musical project of multidisciplinary artist and composer, Jesse Kendal who debuted in 2017 in collaboration with Big Beat Records for the release of his track ‘Drive Slow’. Shortly after, he released his stand out single ‘For Her’ followed by his Colours EP. Showcasing his ability to harness and produce electronic music with emotional impact garnered support from the likes of Huffington Post, OurCulture, Magnetic Magazine and Dancing Astronaut. His music has also reached top 10 on the Hype Machine popular charts and Spotify’s Viral Top 50 in the US, Canada and Australia.
Kendl writes with an emphasis on the change of sound over time and how it affects the listener, resulting in an eclectic collection of emotional journeys. So much can be felt and expressed in just a few minutes and Kendl aims to share music that can have a lasting, positive effect on the listener just as music has done for himself.
Fluid between minimal electronic, IDM and Ambient music, ‘Turn’ is the first single from the artist’s forthcoming EP, Dreamlike. The new track is comprised of a mix of organic and electronic instrumentation as well as a library of his own field recordings he continues to explore new ways to evoke human emotion by experimenting with what is beyond the familiar and broadening his creative approach to do so. Through his exploration of his own sonic world, he finds synergy between melodic techno, contemporary classical and ambient electronica to craft a delicate and rewarding listening experience which is both familiar and uniquely his.
The track ebbs and flows with the interchanging of contrasting themes. Beginning with softly played arpeggiated piano melodies and synth textures, the song gradually builds into an ethereal landscape before being propelled forward by a 4/4 kick and a dark driving energy. With ‘Turn’ Kendl weaves a trance-inducing atmosphere of perfectly balanced soothing and invigorating qualities.
Commenting on the track, he says, “Turn took form after experimenting with some melodic textures I recorded and sampled from my upright piano, which formed the intro and inspired how the rest of the song would play out. It ebbs and flows from light and dark moods resembling the different extremes we experience throughout life.”
“The idea behind Turn is to take you back and forth from light and dark moods and resolve in peaceful stillness.”
