Vancouver-based electronic music architect MAML brings us a new music video for his latest single, Taking Steps. Linking up with innovative filmmakers Melinda Tymm and Scott Bell, the collaboration spins a visual tapestry of mesmeric action. Blending rich landscape shots with sci-fi futurism the video offers a compelling match to a piquant sonic pairing.
The new single explores a wide array of emotion, providing insight into the artist’s musical journey. Commenting on how the track focuses on one key realisation, he offers, “The most important aspect of creating music, or art in general, is to create something that you enjoy first and foremost – don’t worry too much about how it will be perceived by others.”
Taking Steps is MAML’s way of discovering, but also refining his sound. The track begins with an ambient aura that smoothly blends into heavy drums, big synths and ethereal vocal lines. His cinematic storytelling ties the whole project together in a euphoric and awe-inspiring manner.
While this may be a new path for the producer, he is no stranger to musical discovery. Growing up, he played guitar and sang in bands. Ultimately, he found a passion for electronic music and music production. The aptly titled track is the perfect fitting, as MAML is figuratively taking steps into his sound as an artist.
