Four-piece alternative band Prettymess was first formed in 2003 by Melbourne-natives John Baxter and Paul Inglis, originally from the band Alcotomic. After struggling with their management company, the group briefly parted ways before deciding to carry on with a more DIY ethos. The result was their debut EP, Surface Glow, mixed by Craig Lewis in Adelaide featuring the critically acclaimed single Tripping. It’s a raucous indie rock track full of storming guitars and vocal hooks channeling the sound of UK contemporaries Feeder. Accompanying the single is the music video directed by Ago Soldati, using lo-fi monochrome live performance scenes mirroring the fuzzy distorted sound of the track.
