Brighton based band, The Kooks, embarked on their sold out UK tour last night in Manchester at the Academy, the show marked the start of their seventeen night headline tour.
The ‘Best Of’ tour is a celebration of the band being together for an entire decade. It was way back in 2006 when the band landed on our airwaves with ‘Inside In/Inside Out’, which recently went 5x platinum by no coincidence.
The band chose their support well, warming up the night with Liverpool band Clean Cut Kid to get the crowd going and they sure did, drawing in the crowds before The Kooks even got on stage.
Consisting of Luke Pritchard, Hugh Harris, Pete Denton and Alexis Nunez; The Kooks raised anticipation in the crowd with their dramatic entrance. Appearing behind a white sheet, hidden but the crowd knew exactly what was to come. The white sheet only fell halfway through the first song, along with a monumental roar from the crowd. The band couldn’t get away with not playing classics like ‘She Moves In Her Own Way‘, ‘Match Box‘ and ‘Naive‘.
It was evident the world tours, 3 studio albums, and numerous awards they have achieved in their decade-long career, certainly is something to celebrate. Not many bands can still sell out shows after that long, fans are most definitely not tired of their music, especially whilst they’re still creating new music.
The Kooks will be releasing a best of album called ‘The Best Of… So Far’ on the May 19.
