Taking to the stage with their political number ‘uber capitalist death trade’, Cabbage had the crowd captivated. People who had never seen them before were already gripped as the five piece Manchester band stomped around the stage with their post punk songs. Closing with a fan favourite ‘Kevin’ lead singer, Lee Broadbent picked up the bass drum which read ‘Vote Labour’ as the crowd cheered with encouragement of this defiant action against the tory’s.
With their powerful and infectious Live sound The Shimmer band no doubt were high point to the day. The five Bristol piece band uplifted the Baltic stage with their burst of psych sounds.
Next on were Liverpools own The Vryll Society, with their psychedelic rock anthems. As they took to the stage with their groove ridden bass rifts they had the crowd loving the tunes such as ‘deep blue sky’ and ‘sacred flight’.
A highlight to the day was seeing the reading four piece, The Amazons exploded onto stage with their hard rock guitar sounds. From the minute they came on stage they had people queueing outside the tent as they drew them in with their energetic presence. Playing favourites from their newly self titled debut album, such as ‘Black Magic’ and ‘In My Mind’, There is no doubt this infectious rock band are going to go far.
The cribs This being their last date on their ‘Men’s needs, women’s needs, Forever’ ten year anniversary tour this was set to be a show you didn’t want to miss. Opening with songs such as “Our Bovine Public” and fan favourite “Men’s Needs” they already made their presence known as people flocked to the tent to listen to Wakefield’s finest. Finally on the main stage took the headliners for the night, as part of their ‘Best of… So far Tour’ Brighton’s finest The Kooks. Proving they’re far from done they played their new single ‘Be Who You Are’ alongside their classic hits such as ‘naive’, ‘ooh La’ and ‘Shine On’.
Liverpool sound city proved to be an important festival as it showcased new up and coming bands to some of the greats for its 10 year anniversary.
