Circa waves released their brand new album ‘Different Creatures’ this month, subsequently starting their tour on March 18th and last night was Manchester’s turn. The band had support from Inheaven and The Magic Gang, getting the crowd going right from the start. There was a buzzing atmosphere in the room prior to Circa Waves entering the stage, with the crowd chanting ‘Manchester La La La’ at the top of their lungs.
Once Circa Waves walked on stage they where greeted with a loud roar from the crowd as the band promptly went into ‘Wake Up’, the leading song on their new album ‘Different Creatures’. Co-produced by Alan Moulder, the album is the heavier, ‘night time’ equivalent to the summery feeling of its Top 10 predecessor ‘Young Chasers’. Songwriter, Kieran, shaped his ability to portray the changes he sees in the world, ‘Different Creatures’ exhibits a louder and more integral band.
The crowd did not stop for a break, singing every song word for word from start to finish, it’s truly a beautiful thing to see when a crowd sing every song word for word back to the artist they love so much. Circa Waves played a great mixture of tracks from their debut album ‘Young Chasers’ as well as some songs from their second. Their debut album earned the band four Radio 1 A-list singles and saw their popularity and profile rise over a mammoth six months.
The band ended the gig with ‘T Shirt Weather’ which finished the night off perfectly, a song that never fails to put a smile on your face, ending the night on a high note. It will be interesting to see where this band goes next, and the love in Manchester for them is growing more and more.
